Hidden in a quiet street near Shida, UNI Café is a cozy and charming café where two grumpy-yet-lovable resident cats steal the spotlight. The warm lighting and mismatched furniture give it a welcoming, homey feel, and as a result, it’s perfect for studying, working, or simply unwinding. The wide varieties of specialty coffees (NT$100+) are great, but be sure to try the fantasy soda (NT$100) if you’re up for a flavour adventure. If you’re craving a snack, the Earl Grey tea pound cakes (NT$90) are a solid choice. While seating is usually available, chairs can be a bit small, and there are no power outlets. The kind-hearted owner and laid-back feline hosts make this a unique, relaxing escape.

Final Verdict: Best Café for Digital Nomads in Taipei

If I had to choose just one, Forgood Café wins it for me. It’s got everything I need to settle in and actually be productive: comfortable seating, plenty of power outlets, and a calm, focused vibe that never feels stuffy. The food and drinks are consistently great, and the natural light and greenery make it feel like a little pocket of peace in the middle of the city. Sure, it closes a bit early at 8 pm, but honestly, that’s probably just a gentle reminder that I shouldn’t be working all night anyway.

Its authentic and nostalgic Korean flavours are well-loved by locals and Korean expats, and especially for aspiring mukbangers, the 90-minute Unlimited BBQ starts at a mere S$38++ (adult) for lunch.

Ju Shin Jung Korean Restaurant is located at 11 Unity St, #01-30/31, Singapore 237995 and 991B Alexandra Rd, #02-08/09 10/11, Singapore 119970. Please refer to the website for more details.

GU:UM

Inspired by NAE:UM’s fifth episodic menu, Front Yard Barbecue, Chef Louis Han brings the conviviality of traditional Korean barbecue gatherings to Keong Saik Road with GU:UM. This is not your usual Korean BBQ spot. Experienced chefs fire up your meal at the open kitchen, instead of grilling them at your table, to ensure optimal flavours from prime cuts such as Tajima Wagyu Ribeye MBS8 (S$188++ per 280g) and Iberico Pluma (S$118++ per 300g). Choose between four housemade marinations like galbi, chilli gochujang, fermented fish sauce, or salt. Grilled meats may be the highlight but starters here are a league on its own. The Yukhwae Jeon (S$32++) is a moreish cross between Korean pancakes and beef tartare. While the KFC – Korean Fried Cauliflower (S$26++) is a mouth-watering twist on Korean fried chicken. Order a la carte or indulge in the sharing set menu (S$168++ per person) with all the signature items.

GU:UM is located at 29 Keong Saik Rd., Singapore 089136, p.+65 8831 6308. Open Tue -Thu 6pm -10.30pm, Fri – Sat 11.30 am–2.30 pm, 6–11 pm. Closed Sun and Mon.

Wang Dae Bak Korean BBQ

Wang Dae Bak Korean BBQ

Set menus for two start from S$52++ with a selection of succulent meats, while larger sets which come with a soup and the half half pancake run from S$148++ for 3-4 persons. And if you are craving more Korean street food, comfort food like ramyeon and rice cakes can be found on their a la carte menu.

Wang Dae Bak Korean BBQ is located at 22 Cross Street, #01-64, Singapore 048421, p.+65 6225 2646. Open daily 11.30am -2.30pm, 5.30pm -10.30pm.

Ajoomma Korean BBQ

KTV or BBQ? Sizzle up the night with the best of both worlds at Ajoomma Korean BBQ. Spanning all three floors of the shophouse near Club Street, the restaurant houses two private karaoke rooms on the third floor and boasts a display of live seafood on the first. Like the warm and dedicated “aunties” the restaurant is named after, you’ll enjoy carefully prepared Korean BBQ dishes and a range of top-quality meats and sauces. Warm your belly with the savoury Spicy Kimchi Soup with Tuna (S$20++) and a rich Truffle Steamed Egg (S$16++), while the staff grill up choice cuts such as US Prime Beef and Snow-aged Wagyu to your preference. If you like a little more crisp on your pork belly, go for the 2mm Pork Belly (S$28++ for 150gm), otherwise stick with the Pork Belly for more bite.. Or better still, just indulge in their unlimited KBBQ (90 minutes) promotion,  where you can feast away for just S$39.80++.

Ajoomma Korean BBQ is located at No 2 & 4 Gemmill Lane, Singapore 069247, p.+65 8789 8650. Open daily 11am -11pm.

The sister concept to Hanjip Korean Grill House is nestled in the tranquillity of Greenwood Avenue and has Nami-island inspired interior to match that serenity. Popular with residents around there area, the restaurant is buzzing on weekday nights so, as long as you make your reservations, you’ll get to enjoy the range of premium chucks like Japanese Wagyu or USDA Prime. Add the Raw Marinated Crab (S$88++) for an extra oomph. Can’t decide what to eat? Have some of everything with the Nami Signatures platter (S$198++), which comes with Wagyu Chuck Ribs, Kurobuta Pork Jowl, Pork Collar, and 200g of Korean Abalone. Bulgogi Syo

Bulgogi Syo

Grilling is not just about fire. At Bulgogi Syo, grilling is a three-step theatrical  process of fire, flavour, and flair.. Known as the Sear, Torch, and Flambé technique, this method locks in the rich juiciness of premium meats. Prime cuts are first seared on custom Korean hot stones at 180 degrees, then torched with 1,400-degree Fire Blasters to deliver a smoky char, and finally flambéed tableside for a sensory feast. Their Mixed Combo (S$65++) features the LA Galbi, with Pork Collar and Chicken, alongside a choice of jjigae. And if you need some carbs, the Chef’s Choice Combo set (S$59++) comes with fried rice. For a spicy kick, we love the Spicy Baby Octopus (S$25.90++) and the Spicy Cheesy Chicken (S$20.90++) that’s served on a hotplate. Prepare yourselves (and your cameras) for a flavoursome and fiery showcase.

Bulgogi Syo has four outlets around Singapore, please refer to their website for location details.

Best eaten with a dip in their savoury soybean paste.  Don’t miss Chef Paik’s takes on classics like Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), Tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), accompanied by dolsot bibimbap (rice dish in a hot-stone pot) and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables) each designed to showcase the rich flavours of Korea.

Taking over the historic black and white bungalow (formerly Tamarind) in the lush surroundings of Labrador Nature Reserve is a new fine-dining restaurant, ASU. With Chef Ace Tan at the helm, alongside his team of chefs from across Asia, expect an elegant culinary journey through Progressive Asian cuisine that marries flavours with healthful elements.

The ASU experience begins in nature as we stroll through the gardens toward the heritage building. Inside, a cozy living area with plush sofas creates a warm welcome, leading us to three doors, each opening into a unique dining concept—one of which is ASU. Its elegantly simple and warm aesthetics embraces the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi with recycled timber and oxidized bronze. White and earthy hues add to the organic warmth, while its open layout with clean lines naturally draws our eyes to the main centerpiece – the Chef’s Dining Table. It sits 15 persons, we recommend a seat there for a touch of theatrical flair as you watch the chefs at work.

ASU’s debut menu, Origins, is inspired by Chef Ace’s fond memories of local food, reimagined with a contemporary twist. Here, we see stories of Chef Ace’s favourite childhood snacks in the Crystal Dumpling,  with lobster, pickled bamboo shoot, and white fungus encased in a delicate, translucent sphere, and the Oyster Bao —Chef’s take on the classic Fuzhou oyster cake—stuffed with succulent pork jowl and chunks of oyster in a rich, house-made oyster sauce. In the second course, we enjoyed the cold but hearty Jessica’s Duck Soup, a homage to his mother’s recipe that’s reimagined with consommé granita and enriched with ginseng, a stuffed Amela tomato, and free-range duck. We spot a hint of Teochew cuisine in the third course Re: Pomfret, where kanpachi fish paste is piped between the crispy grilled skin and the sweet flesh of the managatsuo.

Although the four-course menu (S$168++ per person) more than satisfies our stomachs, we’d stretch our appetite (and budget) for supplementary dishes like the Ngor Hiang (S$20++), which sees red-legged prawn and chestnuts in a yuba casing. It even comes with a deep-fried prawn head fritter. For desserts, we loved the sweet and savoury flavours from Yuan Yang(S$15++), the dalgona-style caramel coffee made into a coffee kombucha sherbet and topped with house-made chicken floss.

Note: The menu is refreshed periodically to embrace seasonal eating, highlighting ingredients at their peak for both flavour and wellness.

ASU is located at 30 Labrador Villa Road, Singapore 119189, p.+65 6278 6364. Open Wed – Sun 6pm -11pm. Closed Mon- Tue.

Dumplings, the bite-sized burst of flavours wrapped in a paper-thin skin, are not just easy to eat but they also provide the proteins, fibre (just a little), and carbs for a nutritious meal. In fact, they are part of the staple diet in some parts of the world. In Chinese culture, making dumplings is a cherished tradition that brings the family together, while its appearance carries the auspicious meaning of money bags! Whether you like them boiled, pan-fried, or steamed, these are some of the best places to go to eat dumplings in Singapore.

Dumpling Darlings

where to eat Dumpling-Darlings

With their fresh take on contemporary Asian cuisine, Dumpling Darlings – run by the same team behind Lola’s Cafe – has all the dumplings you can ever dream of. From The Original (S$8) stuffed with pork and cabbage, to Spicy Sichuan (S$8) and the Korean Veggie Mandu (S$8), they even have a Dessert Dumpling (S$12) of amaretto, cream cheese, and poached pears. This casual, cosy spot also serves up homemade egg noodles with selections like XO Prawn Noodles (S$12.50) and the Miso Mushroom Noodles (S$8.50). Their cocktail and natural wine selection, although limited, is just as creative as their dumpling offerings.

Dumpling Darlings is located at Amoy St, #44, Singapore 069870, p.+65 8223 9249 and 86 Circular Road, Singapore 049438, p.+65 8889 9973.

Din Tai Fung

From selling tinned oil to receiving its first Michelin Star in Hong Kong, Din Tai Fung has become one of the top places to eat Xiao Long Baos (steamed pork soup dumplings) around the world. The (not so secret) secret lies in its paper-thin dumpling skin which is folded 18 times. You won’t go wrong with the Original Xiao Long Bao and its steamed chicken variation, and don’t miss crowd-favourites like the Truffle Pork Dumplings or the umami Crab Roe Dumplings. From time to time, they’ll even have seasonal flavours such as the Steamed Chilli Crab and Pork Xiao Long Bao for the nation’s birthday. Keep up with them to find out more.

Din Tai Fung is located at multiple locations around Singapore. Please refer to their website for location details.

Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao

This popular Shanghainese dumpling store run by Nanjing natives expanded from Alexandra Village Food Centre – where it drew long daily queues – to running their restaurant in ARC early this year. Even with its humble beginnings, Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao found its way to the Michelin Guide in 2023. What caught the attention of the Michelin inspectors were the Crispy Pan-Fried Dumplings (S$9.80) that were “filled to the brim and nicely browned on the bottom.” But what we love is the good old Steamed Mini Buns or Xiao Long Bao (S$6.80) for the pop of flavourful broth as we bite into it.

Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao is located at ARC, 460 Alexandra Rd, #02-23, Singapore 119963.

A post shared by DaXi 大喜 (@daxisg)

Asian fusion casual restaurant DaXi 大喜 serves up handmade dumplings in four flavours, ranging from Original Pork, Smoked Duck, Chives & Pork, and Green Sichuan Pepper (from S$10.80 for five pieces). Besides choosing the fillings, you’ll also choose how you want them cooked. Have it boiled or pan-fried, or immersed in a bowl of superior chicken broth – deliciously comforting. Try the Pork Dumpling with Egg (S$11.80 for five pieces) which sees juicy pan-fried dumplings on top of an egg or the Fragrant Mala Pork Dumpling (S$11.80 for five pieces) for a spicy kick.

DaXi 大喜 is located at multiple locations around Singapore. Please refer to their socials for location details.

Jing Hua Xiao Chi

jing hua xiao chi

Calling themselves “Singapore’s Original Dumpling House,” Jing Hua Xiao Chi, established in 1989 was simply a way of making ends meet at that time. Their honest-to-goodness home-style cooking has won the hearts and bellies of locals and now they even have outlets in Japan and Italy! This says much about their dumplings which include the classic Xiao Long Bao (S$9) with paper-thin skin and the Pan-fried Mixed Seafood & Pork Dumplings (S$10), which resemble the Sicilian pastry Cannoli.

Jing Hua Xiao Chi is located at 21/23 Neil Rd, Singapore 088814, p.+65 6221 3060. Open daily 11.30am3pm, 5.30pm -9.30pm.

When it makes the top of the SMU students’ “must-eat” list, you know it’s something to take notice of. Tucked away on the second floor of Fortune Centre, A9 Noodle Dumpling serves up affordable noodles and dumplings that are S$0.26 a pop. Other popular items here include the Mala Savoury Noodles (S$5) and Spicy Savoury Noodles (S$5), which although doesn’t come with dumplings, are often sold out for the day.

Stepping into Fiasco by Juice, the newest addition to Tiong Bahru’s residential enclave, feels like entering a cosy café in Bali—non-pretentious, relaxed, and brimming with charm. The decor, a blend of retro and contemporary styles, creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that complements the restaurant’s ‘simple but better’ philosophy. Led by Chef Haran Kumar, formerly of Michelin-starred kitchens, Fiasco by Juice, presents a menu that seamlessly fuses Modern European dishes with vibrant Southeast Asian flavours, offering a dining experience that is both elevated and approachable.

Something we’d definitely be returning for is one of Singapore’s largest and most diverse wine lists, offering affordable selections for both wine lovers and casual drinkers. Our pick of the night was the Macon Verzé, Domaine Jules Desjourneys 2019, for its crisp green apple, white flowers and lemon notes.

The menu is a playful celebration of produce-driven cooking, with highlights like the Dry Aged Japanese Snapper, which comes with a beautifully tangy mandarin kosho-beurre blanc. Something even our friend who does not like coriander, enjoyed the Mussels, bathed in rich Thai green curry butter and served with house-made flatbread and a refreshing Thai salad. For something lighter, the Black Bean Dip with homemade flatbread and guajillo butter was also a great to munch on as the table conversation continued to thrive. Here’s a secret, the friendly staff were happy to supply us with more flatbread to go along our dip, when we kindly requested. Something that you won’t find on the menu, but Chef Kumar might be happy to whip up for you is his take on the Bebek Guling, with the richness of sambal and tender duck.

Beyond the dinner menu (available from 5.30pm-9.45pm), We’re keen on heading down for lunch (11.30am-2.30pm), drawn back by the promise of the deli-style Sandos in iterations like Lamb, Egg Mayo and Pesto Mozzarella, along with dessert options like the Balinese Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

Fiasco by Juice is located at 21 Yong Siak St, Singapore 168651. Open Wed-Sun 9 am–11:30 pm. Closed on Mon & Tue.

Where old meets new in elegance and warmth, Manhattan Bar not only keeps the charm of old New York alive, but it even infuses a sense of glamour and grit with its new bar concept. Walk in to Manhattan Bar and you’ll find that nothing has changed in this softly lit space. The glowing marble bar still presides over the cosy nooks and leather seats, and the immaculately dressed staff still serve their best smile and service. What’s different is the slight flurry of activity at a corner where a private space once sits. Shrouded by heavy curtains, it leaves much to the imagination what secret it conceals. Traverse beyond, if you dare, and you’ll enter the alter-ego of Manhattan Bar – East47.

Space and Inspiration

east47

Step through the curtains and you’ll arrive at the glitzy new world of East47, where soft lights and leather seats are traded for reflective steel accents, a black mirrored ceiling, and Barovier & Toso Opera Venetian crystal lights which instantly brighten the space. And the first person to greet you will be Marilyn Monroe, immortalised in a silkscreen painting by Andy Warhol. TheGold Marilyn Monroe(genuine, by the way), alongside other artworks by Andy Warhol and Alana Dee Haynes adorn the silver foil-like walls, with blue Breuer chairs and a blue with silver carpet grounding the space.

Tomato Sauce

While some may relate East47 to a speakeasy, it is more of a bar-in-a-bar concept, or for us, an alter-ego, Mr Hyde to Manhattan Bar’s Dr. Jekyll. This intimate 12-seater space draws inspiration from Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory, situated on East 47th Street in Manhattan. More than the parties and gatherings it was known for, the Silver Factory became the epicentre of art and counterculture, where unbridled creativity thrived. Especially so for Andy Warhol, who involved many of his guests in the making of his legendary silkscreen prints and lithographs – from getting their opinions to having them churn the artworks out like an assembly line.

Just like the Silver Factory, the cosy space at East47 draws you in, inviting conversations and interactions over cocktails and bites, as time slips away unnoticed.

Cocktail and Culinary Craft

east47 team
From L to R: Antonino Donato, Riccardo Lugano, Carolyn Or

Instead of artworks, East47 channels that same creative fervour into crafting their cocktail and culinary program. Much like an innovation hub, expect playful mixes and artful twists to their evolving menu that will feature new cocktails now and then. (Keep up with them on socials to find out!). From the brilliant minds and hands of Head Bartender Antonino Donato, Assistant Bar Manager Riccardo Lugano, and Chef de Cuisine Carolyn Or, East47 debuts with a curated selection of seven cocktails and dishes in Volume 1: High Low. Each cocktail is paired with a dish and you can choose to have Degustation Pairing of Three at S$148++, or enjoy each on its own.

pairing
Cosmo Marilyn and Chawanmushi

The menu is designed around Warhol’s artistic style and influences combining high art and pop culture. It even draws inspiration from iconic figures like Marilyn Monroe in Cosmo Marilyn (S$28++). The refreshing cocktail mixes vodka and tequila with milky oolong tea, accented with gooseberry, passion fruit, and pecan nuts. It makes a good starting pair with Chawanmushi (S$28++) made of tea egg custard and crowned with fresh Hokkaido uni. Matching the colours of the seats and carpet, the Melon 54 (S$28++) turns blue with Spirulina, imparting a slight herbaceous flavour to the bubbly dual rum-based drink. This pairs with the stingray Taco (S$18++) topped with zesty scallion sour cream and wrapped with compressed purple cabbage.

cocktail and food pair
Miss Brown x Duck

Have some fun with the Space Daiquiri (S$28++) – Clairin Le Rocher rum, engenho aged cachaça, and dragon fruit hot sauce – that comes with cotton candy floss! An aromatic and delicious boost comes with Miss Brown (S$28++), which includes Matusalem rum, floral coffee, and a spritz of lavender perfume. Have it on its own or pair it with Duck (S$20++) that’s foie gras torchon in a brioche bun. Drink your dessert with Pie (S$32++), a milkshake-looking drink with Ardbeg 10 whisky, rum, and pineapple juice, complete with cream and gorgonzola cheese. This is paired with Silver (S$18++), an apple compote cheesecake, perfect for sweet endings.

East47 is located within Manhattan Bar at Level 2, Conrad Singapore Orchard, 1 Cuscaden Road, Singapore 249715, p.+65 +65 9856 6243.
